Welcome to the Castle

March 1, 2023

Day 3.

Breakfast was amazing again!

Very anxious about moving to the main facility – the castle.  Up again at 6.30 am.

Upon arriving at the castle, all residents and staff made me feel comfortable.

I was introduced to my buddy and shown around, including my room, which is at the top of the castle!  Many stairs to climb and a nice big room.  After I had settled into my room, I went back down to find my buddy.  Walked around the castle trying to find him, then when I asked another person, found out he had gone to the gym!  Did not know my way around at all, but I got the layout quickly.

After introducing myself (on my own, as my buddy had gone) to other residents, I was straight into my first group meeting.  My group is friendly, open and comforting.  This is the group I will remain for my time in the castle.

Whilst I am in detox, I must remain around the castle, due to safety and nurses being able to monitor me.  I also must stay up here for my meals.

Met the medical team who are amazing.  Same routine of medication and blood pressure regularly throughout the day.  The same medication was provided with the aim of slowly cutting down in a controlled manner.

There is a daily schedule that must be followed with different compulsory lectures and groups throughout the day.  Every day we have morning and evening reflections.

Introduced to my therapist and had my initial therapist meeting so that a treatment plan can be formed.

Had chats with many other residents who made me feel comfortable and was made aware that I can visit the medical office as and when needed, and was encouraged to do so if I felt emotional, anxious or just not right.

Emotional day with a lot of random crying and anxiousness as I adjusted to the new routines.  Many residents comforted me as  I was having down moments due to detox adjusting.  The realisation of what lies ahead was sinking in as I will be here for 4 weeks.

I had a self-realisation that I am in the right place to understand and correct my alcohol addiction, with the goal to continue the plan after rehab treatment.

Looking forward to the weeks ahead, understanding the 12-step programme and maintaining it after treatment.
