Myself & Addiction

April 8, 2023

Day 41.

It was another nice, chilled day today.  I spent a lot of time today doing relapse prevention, which reinforced some of the techniques and coping skills I have learnt so far.  In particular, visualization and using DBT skills.

It was thought-provoking to write a letter to myself on emotions, attitudes and behaviour that could lead to relapse.  I need to monitor my behaviour, control my emotions and keep to a daily routine – including meditation, attending meetings, self-reflection and not procrastinating.

I also wrote a goodbye letter to addiction, which by the time I had finished, made me feel good inside as I addressed it to Vino and Mary, making it real, and how I don’t want or will have them in my life anymore.  It felt refreshing to write it down and let them go.

The rest of the day was leisure time and peer-led games, which felt good to just have some fun and stop thinking about rehab work.

7 peers are leaving on Monday, everyone I have bonded with and will try to stay in touch.

Last weekend in the castle, making the most of it.
