Small Steps & Box Breathing

May 3, 2023

Woke up in a very good mood today and did not feel angry or anxious today.

Worked on catching up on some of the projects that I did not do yesterday, as I have set myself the aim to do some of it every day. Work was a bit more chilled and relaxed today, as yesterday I was getting wound up over nothing. I decided not to let anything get to me today, not overload, take small steps and take the day at a slower pace.

A perfect opportunity presented itself to get all the stuff that I have accumulated in from clearing out! Arriving home, a neighbour said how they were going down the skip, and did I need to bin anything. I cleared out the shed and put it into the neighbour’s trailer, to take down the skip for me. I thanked them for this and will get them some chocolates as a thank you.

The Psychoeducational session went well, crazily talking about anxiety and breathing techniques, and how to bring yourself out of that state. I had just experienced this. I shared how I felt yesterday, and how I managed these feelings, using the square / box breathing technique. This technique works well for me and I do this technique until I feel relaxed.

  1. Inhale through your nose to a slow count of 4.
  2. Hold for a count of 4.
  3. Exhale through your mouth for a count of 4.
  4. Pause and hold for the count of 4.
